Week 3 Lecture - HTML and CSS

Today’s lecture was really cool. Well as cool as writing HTML can be. Despite doing some in year 9, we never actually made it to CSS files. In fact the extent was here is a wad of HTML, write it out and play with it. I was astounded at the idea of writing the content for the site first and then add your HTML tags. I mean does that not sound simple to anyone else? Yet here I am writing it all out bit by bit, shame on me. CSS files as sad as it might sound, I find really exciting and I have not really done web page work for four years. I did some Dreamweaver in Year 12 but that is not really exciting its like I want this box, this tab and this picture and dump it all in.

So suddenly I find this proposal really fresh and exciting. I knew about how to access the source of a site however using it as a learning tool was not something I thought about. So at the moment I am looking for a text editor, I used to just use notepad but there looks to be some really cool ones out there so why not have a look around before I start.

Week 2 Lecture

So my immediate question is how should I do this? By 'this' I refer to the typing and the blog that is to come about by my transference of thoughts to typing, to the bits of information that make up what you’re reading now. Really that was just a long winded was of saying that I haven't really thought about a blog before... another question is whether I am restricted to what I thought about the lecture or whether I can draw on my other interests to provide an understanding for my choices and influences for this course...

The lectures I have found fairly informative though most of which I have already covered. Although approaching it from a media production point of view I find rather refreshing from the dry IT classes I had during my time at college. The traffic found on blogs is pretty amazing though the death of print is also a saddening idea though I suppose that it was bound to happen when you consider what this format has provided to users. Now I have chosen Blogger for my blog as I am a Gmail user and we were told to look at Google reader as well so having all of these programs accessible to the one account seemed sensible to me. However I do admit I have found Blogger’s templates restricting and pulling HTML templates of the net has been rather troublesome. Hopefully Sort it out soon.

I find it funny that RSS feeds came up actually because it was only just recently did I start using FEED DEMON 3.0. Though, I originally got it to check web-comics rather than blogs. I find it quite nice being a bit nervous and excited about studying again last 2 weeks feel like I haven't had a chance to do much else than read require readings. My only thoughts are that I need a little time to settle in I guess. It's sort of a rude awakening when you consider that I spent the last year off working and just doing whatever when I came home. Music I find takes up a lot of time, at this point it more listening than actual playing though which is a little sad though I fear I might be forever condemned to playing chords and rhythm guitar as I don't practice enough!

Oh well, thoughts on what I might do my assignment on... Probably music related maybe a little art too? I don't know maybe I could curate a site that review art, web comics, music and other media formats. I imagine that this blog will take that avenue when writing including the weekly lecture post.
